The hard work was put in but we fell short of victory. After the game I participated in post game activities for our fans. I had players organized for a 20 minute autograph session and required media appearances.

The social media team created a TBT of last years contest versus the Orlando Predators, a playoff matchup. All week the Red Nation game has been promoted via social media and other media outlets. Walk through today was brief as we did the normal film evaluation and light practice.
After breaking down the film for today and completing the Walk through the office was gearing up for the Red Nation game! This week we are doing a promotion for the first 7,500 fans to receive a Red Nation Gladiators tee-shirt. This is one of the biggest events of the season because the company is doing this promotion without sponsorship. I've learned through my internship how the Cavaliers Operating Co. would co-brand items for cross-promotion that helps cut costs.
Today was a very exciting work day. I was privileged to sit in on meeting pertaining to corporate sponsorship and the upcoming contest which was game four of the Eastern Conference Finals (ECF) Cavs vs. Hawks. The corporate sponsorship meetings were very informative. The Q is host to three professional sport teams, The Cavs, Gladiator, and Monsters. The Cavs provide fan appreciation items like t-shirts, fan towels and glow foam sticks. The items do not always come as expense for the Cavs, they are normally trades or partnership deals negotiated. For example the "All In" shirts feature the sponsors who provided deals on the backside of the Tee. It is a huge plus for the Cleveland Operating Company, when its franchises are having success. Everyone in the meeting were encouraged to "ride the wave of the Cavs" meaning push for deals to close faster encouraging the acknowledgment/exposure the Cavs are creating. There was a 30 second spot created during the game that provided fans with the upcoming Gladiators contest, the "Red Nation" night. The first 7,500 fans received red nation t-shirts to wear inside the arena. The Cavs won their contest against the Hawks and the arena was filled with confetti. I was able to attend the game and the atmosphere was exciting. There was a spontaneous office party hosted at the Q in honor of the Cavs win. The sweep was complete and the next event was the Gladiators Red Nation night. There was a spontaneous office party hosted at the Q in honor of the Cavs win. At week 10 of the season everyone is pretty acclimated to the flow of the staff. There is 18 regular season games, right now we are a little banged up (injury/soreness) so practices will have a little less contact, more conditioning, and more mental reps. Our first bye week is not until the weekend of July 4th. The AFL has initiated a league wide bye week so every team will be off. Today I did the breakdown for mid-field. This week I should be returning to play with my teammates. It is going to be a very short week after suffering a comeback loss to the Sabercats last Saturday. Orlando will be looking for their own revenge after losing to us in overtime at their place. We have not made any transactions, but they have lost two guys to injury over the last two weeks. I prepared film for todays practice and broke-down the game versus the Sabercats for us to evaluate. In previous weeks the walk through has been a combination day, of day three/redzone and final adjustments. Coming off a Friday game last week heading into the Saturday game this week the Gladiators was able to get in extra practice. The walk-through is a dress rehearsal with the travel team allowing them to casually visualize and practice their game reps. The Coaches have a more subtle approach allowing more situations to be talked out over constant conditioning. Traveling to the west coast is normally beneficial to eastern time zone teams because they gain 3 hours of time, however its also a disadvantage to east coast team when considering the start time of games. For example, home games typically start at 7pm, but in traveling to the west their 7pm start time is equivalent to a 10pm start time for the Gladiators. I am sure there will be an early bed check. I will not be traveling with the team this weekend. Day three we focused on the redzone area. I did the film breakdown for meetings. I learned more information about team travel pertaining to how group tickets are reserved. Today we signed a free agent who was once with us in training camp. His addition caused for another player to be placed on a reserve list. I was unaware rather or not the traveling roster was set. After I was advised that it was already set I questioned if there were any last minute changes how that may affect team travel. I was informed that unless there is an addition on the number of tickets, any issue with names can simply be substituted. |
